John Ames Humphry/OCLC/Forest Press Award winner announcedCHICAGO -

Sylva Natalie Manoogian is this year's recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) International Relations Committee's John Ames/Humphry/OCLC/ Forest Press Award.

OCLC/Forest Press donated the cash award of $1,000, which is given to an individual for significant contributions to international librarianship.

Sylva Natalie Manoogian received this award for her significant contributions in librarianship and community service worldwide. Manoogian is a PhD candidate in Information Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Ms. Manoogian is being recognized for her tireless efforts to rebuild the Gulbenkian Library of the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem, her contributions as a consultant to libraries and librarians in Armenia, and the cooperative spirit she has fostered among librarians from the nations of the Caucasus.

“Ms. Manoogian's library career has demonstrated innovative approaches to public service in this nation and the international community reaching beyond the expected levels of community outreach and core programs generally associated with library services,” said Thomas Alford, chair of the IRC- John Ames Humphry/OCLC/Forest Press Award Committee.

Manoogian will be recognized during the International Relations Round Table Chair's Program on Monday, June 26, 2006 at the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.
